New Made Item: This WW2 black leather M35, M40, M42 helmet carry strap is made exclusively for International Military Antiques, Inc. It is constructed of high quality leather in a black finish with correct steel fittings making it nearly identical to an unissued original in our collection. This strap circles the helmet and clips underneath the side skirts with metal hooks. A small leather loop secures a metal clip to the back of the strap. This clip was used to hang the helmet from the soldier's backpack or belt to alleviate the stress on the chinstrap, which was commonly used and would typically break. According to unconfirmed internet research this type of carrying system was designed by Josef Welte in 1937.
